Are you all set for Christmas? Beau is, as you can tell! I need to find him a big knuckle bone that will make him happy for a day or two.
Tomorrow night we're doing our Bethlehem dinner, which should be fun. Hope you're starting a new tradition, such as buying a new ornament, getting Finn his first ornament...things like that.
Brother Bohne came by Sunday to home teach and was asking about our Christmas traditions. It's nice to have just a few to carry on each year. He also talked about his favorite Christmas. He said you would naturally think it was one where they gave gifts, serve to someone needy, etc. But his was the Christmas right after they moved here, where money was very tight. In fact, he knew that the kids would maybe only get one present, due to the help of his mother-in-law. He was very down and suddenly, Christmas Eve, someone rang the doorbell. He opened the door, and there on the step were a few boxes filled with many presents, and a few bags filled with enough food for an entire feast for Christmas Day. At first he was upset, thinking.. 'What! Do they not think I can take care of my own!?" But as they day wore on, the true spirit of Christ entered his heart and made him feel things he had never felt before. The purest sense of gratitude for the Savior came over him, making that Christmas stand out more than any other.
He challenged us all to do something for someone, even visit an elderly person in the ward, but do something before Christmas that will put that light in someone else's eyes.
It was a good lesson.
Have a Merry Christmas, and may the light of Christ burn in your heart for all the Lord has blessed you with.
Love, Mom
